christopher columbus and cher

by on Oct.12, 2010, under learning, stuff we like, super serious time

Christopher Columbus was kind of a dummy and “discovered” America while searching for another route from Europe to Asia that didn’t involve Africa; hence  naming Native Americans, “Indians.”  He thought he was in India…….dummy.   I found some of Chris’s journal entries describing the Arawak people of the Bahamas as friendly and naive and as people who would share anything they owned.  Then he turned them into slaves and tried to find gold.  Awesome.

So I did some googling about Mr. Columbus to see if I could find any redeeming qualities that warranted his having an entire National Holiday dedicated to him and really didn’t find what I was looking for.  I did however find some amazing photos of Cher and her Native American fashions (she’s Cherokee you know). Native American people were and are some of the most creative, loving and sharing people in the world.  If stupid Columbus would have just taken the time to observe their culture and find respect for it, we might today find ourselves living in a very different “america.”

At least fashions from the 1400′s didn’t stick and Native fashion did-take that Columbus

And so today shall be Cher Day!  thanks for America and everything Mr. Columbus, but I’m going with Cher.
