So this is exciting!

The beautiful Joan Smalls totally ownes the colorful cover of VOGUE Italia this month.
It’s the first time since 2008 the mag has used a woman of color on their cover!! And it looks awesome.

How do we say “It’s about time” in Italian?!

Monday morning

by on Feb.27, 2012, under stuff we do

I’m sitting here checking out Oscar pics…best/worst dressed, things they said, after party pics and peeling off my shellac polish (which has lasted just shy of 3 weeks!).

I know it’s bad to peel it off but I’ve already started and can not stop now, believe me I tried.

Anyhow, it’s an indulgent morning here and my favorite dresses where
Gwyneth’s simple white Tom Ford gown. less is SO much more!
and
Natalie’s fun red polka dot Dior gown
and
I also like Jessica’s black and copper castle worthy McQueen gown. I can imagine the damp cold castle now…

Risky Business

by on Feb.07, 2012, under learning, stuff we like, super serious time

It seems like risk is well, risky. It brings change, doubt, the unknown, discomfort and many other elements. And often times it seeks us out rather than it being sought out by us.
So when it comes knocking on your door…what to you do? Do you answer the door, warmly invite it in, give it a cup of tea and hear what it’s got to say? Or do you peek at it from behind a curtain and point at your “no solicitors” sign praying it leaves quickly and without incident?
Whatever your stance is on taking risk, we all have to do it sometimes. It’s not always “successful” and it’s usually not on our schedule.
Take the leap and trust that there is something to gain on the other side. And of course do it with style and grace! Make Civilized Wildlife proud.

Oh the canvas can do miracles

This song from 1980 is a real guilty pleasure! When I hear it (as I did this morning), my endophines immediately release and I turn the volume up! Then I sing and day dream a little…

The general feeling I get reminds me of what I imagine people in 1980 were doing: cocaine, wearing loose fitting silks, feathering their hair and getting divorces.

Pinocchio makes me uncomfortable

by on Feb.01, 2012, under super serious time

Has anyone read the Disney classic Pinocchio lately?
I’m not really sure why you would unless you’re a parent, grandparent, uncle/aunt or a nanny. Regardless, it’s a strange story that is really just kind of creepy.
Now I’m sure back when Mr. Disney was alive it was a neutral story that promoted a few basic values (truth, bravery and selflessness-which I’m a fan of) but in today’s kinda fucked up world the message gets overshadowed by themes of bribery, lies and human trafficking.
What happened to “It’s a small world”…
